Many people in urban areas live in large multi-unit apartment buildings, cooperatives, and condominiums. Often air ventilates freely between these apartments. In these buildings there is often a mix of smoking and non-smoking residents. When one individual smokes it is possible for that smoke to enter a non-smokers apartment.
It has been proven by multiple studies that cigarette smoke contains various carcinogens and other compounds which negatively impact the health of those exposed. More recently second hand smoke has also been implicated in an increased rate of cancer and other health concerns.
This petition recognizes the right of smokers to smoke in their private space up until that smoke enters a non smokers space. We therefore request protection of the non smokers rights.
