propose a referendum on PR statehood due to the devastating tax increases imposed on the people coupled with debt crisis

We the people of Puerto Rico need immediate action from your administration on a referendum for statehood. The imposed devastating taxes to deal with the debt crisis is a punishment from the current administration to the American citizens of Puerto Rico. Effective July 1 taxes were raised to 11.5%, the highest in all 50 states reaching a breaking point of mass immigration to the U.S. It is unjust to be subject to U.S. laws without representation in Congress or presidential voting rights. The United States bears a large moral obligation to Puerto Rico and we have already voted for statehood 61% on the last referendum in 2012; however, the administration ignored the stated will of the people.
