American dependence on foreign oil is a tremendous threat to our national security. In order to secure access to oil in the Middle East, we must coerce unfriendly nations to allow us access to their natural resources. This has led the Obama administration to consider military action to keep the oil flowing, effectively choosing oil over human life.
We budgeted $51 billion for the Iraq war in 2011, and $119 billion for the Afghanistan war. Reallocating even a quarter of these funds to technological research would bring us much closer to energy independence. It is this independence that will ultimately bring the peace and security we seek.
We call on President Obama to propose a plan for achieving energy independence by 2022. Let's ensure a secure future for our children.
