The opportunity cost of being a teacher today is truly high. Due to the atrociously low wages of our public school teachers it is surprising when those holding lucrative private sector jobs choose to transfer to a teaching position and mold the next generation of their field, because they are sacrificing so much to do so. The government should reward those who make that sacrifice for the good of the community by marginally limiting their financial burden, while at the same time give incentive to young people to pursue jobs in the private sector before taking on a teaching position so they have more to offer their students.
