In the wake of the shooting at the Sandyhook Elementary School our nation is again debating the issues around gun control. People opinions surrounding this topic tend to be fierce and the issues are complex. Here is a possible compromise...
Establish a $75-100 tax on the sale of all firearms as well as a 10% tax on the sale of all ammunition. Then, use this revenue to create grants to fund mental health care and awareness, enhanced security at schools, and educational programs which teach gun safety and nonviolent conflict resolution.
For those opposed, I offer:
That no right is absolute
That $75-100 is not much when considering that a firearms primary function is to take away life
It does not add any "gun control" measures, but rather mitigate factors contributing to gun violence.
