propose Voting Day be declared a national holiday.

Created by S.S. on March 23, 2014

Voter turnout in the United States is very low, with just half of the country voting during years of record turnout. There are dozens of factors that contribute to this, but one possibility is that many poor and middle-class voters simply don't have time in their workdays to vote. We propose the Obama administration make our democracy more democratic by proposing that Voting Day (or the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November) be declared a federal, public holiday. Almost every other developed country gives its citizens the day off to exercise their sacred right, and America should not be left behind by the rest of the world.
