First, we were told banks were too big to fail. Now, they are too big to jail? No one is above the law, Mr. President. The attourny general's failure to prosecute HSBC executives because there might be repercussions to the larger economy is an outrage and demonstrates the pusillanimous character of this administration. $1.9 bn in fines is a joke, Mr. President! HSBC's top executive makes three times that and in 2011, HSBC's profits were $21.8 bn.
No bank should be regarded as too big to fail. Until this government has the political will to break up these financial behemoths and put executives in prison, no amount of federal regulation is going protect the national interests of the United States or keep the American people from being bent over a barrel.
