Elected officials should not be able to ignore their responsibility to enforce the laws of the states or federal government.
California - gay marriage
Chicago - marriage licenses
Federal government - DOMA
Gun bans
federal immigration laws that are not enforced in states.
If it's the law and you represent the voters, then you should enforce the laws or resign. If you don't want to enforce the law, then do something to make a better law. Don't collect a paycheck from taxpayers for doing nothing!
