The recent announcement that the SEC would be fining HSBC $1.6 billion and not pursuing criminal charges for laundering money for cartels and terrorists is outrageous.
It's outrageous that the SEC and the President believe that as long as you work for a big bank, your crimes should go unpunished. It's outrageous that ordinary people can be searched without consent, have their cash seized, and are viciously prosecuted for many petty crimes, but a large bank that commits crimes on a worldwide level gets fined one month's worth of profit and can continue on with business as usual. We demand criminal prosecutions and asset forfeitures for HSBC and all the executives involved, and if the current actors in the SEC aren't willing to do that, we demand that you replace them with people who will.
