No institution, public or private, should be above the law. The US Justice Department (despite knowing and having evidence that specific executives participated in large scale money laundering for Iran, Al Qaeda, and Mexican drug cartels) has decided to fine and not to criminally prosecute either HSBC itself or any of the bank's current or former executives. The organizations this bank supported brutally kill, torture, prostitute and rape innocents around the world. They also threaten the lives of the good men and women in our nation's armed forces. Is our government so beholden to the big banks that it cannot stand up to them when their behavior is evil and threatens American lives? Let's prosecute HSBC to the fullest extent of the law.
