The tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut was heart breaking; however, it should not serve as the impetus for an "Assault Weapons Ban". The first Assault Weapons Ban provided no significant decrease in crime and only hindered law abiding citizens from exercising their constitutional right to bear arms. The continued and persistent talk to re-instate a ban on certain firearms based solely on their physical characteristics will do nothing to prevent another mass shooting. However, it will prevent law abiding citizens from pursuing their constitutional right to bear arms and it will infringe the right of law abiding citizens to partake in shooting sports with the firearm(s) of their choice.
