The government needs to focus on the root causes of violence rather that using an inanimate object as a scape goat. The Armalite 15 rifles (AR-15) and its variants are no more or less "deadly" than any other firearm in circulation and statistically account for a tiny portion of all gun violence especially in relation to the large numbers in circulation. Banning a specific rifle will do nothing to reduce or prevent violence. The 2nd amendment of the constitution protects the rights of U.S. citizens to keep and bear "arms" not just sporting/ hunting weapons. Firearms like the ar-15 rifle and other semiautomatic rifles serve a vital role in ensuring the ongoing freedom of all U.S. citizens from multiple threats and as such should not be banned.
