Protect the ability to exercise freedom of expression without fear and intimidation especially to ones livelihood.

Created by J.M. on July 29, 2015

The free communication of ideas and opinions is one of the most precious of all rights. Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression via the 1st and 14th amendment. Exceptions to free speech for the initiator of the speech have been added over time; however, no protections have been added to protect the initiator of speech from retaliation. Fear, intimidation, and threats to our livelihood are limiting our ability to exercise this fundamental right. In the internet age where everything is semi-public (even personal and private opinions may become public) a dissenting opinion against the vocal majority can cost someone their safety, their career, and their privacy. When freedom of expression is limited in such a way, our democracy suffers.
