Protect chickens, turkeys, and all birds under the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act

The Humane Methods of Slaughter Act states that "cattle, calves, horses, mules, sheep, swine, and other livestock" in factory farms must be unconscious before they are killed. The words "chicken" and "turkey" are noticeably missing from the law, causing 9 billion birds to be brutally slaughtered each year without any legal protection. Birds can legally be handled and slaughtered in ways that would be considered a felony if applied to a cat or dog. For example, chickens are often fully alive and conscious while their throats are slit and they are placed into a scalding tank to remove their feathers. This petition is asking the Obama Administration to have chickens, turkeys, and all birds included under the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act, in order to give them the protection they deserve.
