The US lags behind other developed nations in providing employees with paid leave after the birth of a child. Women, in particular, suffer significant workplace discrimination for becoming pregnant and having children. Our society must adapt to support women and families, recognizing the important role of parents in raising children who will become the cornerstone of future economic development. A woman should not have to choose between career and family. With the appropriate support, women can be excellent mothers and workers. Until we recognize the significant role of women in the workforce, our economy will suffer and our families will be vulnerable. Please pass legislation addressing discrimination against pregnant women and providing paid parental leave for American employees.
