Protect consumers from unfair business practices and threats to harm credit ratings over magazine subscriptions.

Created by H.B. on December 18, 2012

Harassing phone calls, threats to harm credit ratings, extortion. How have these come to be associated with something as benign and ordinary as a magazine subscription?

Automatic credit card re-billing without permission, difficulties canceling magazines, and damage to consumer credit ratings over what? Letting a magazine subscription run out without renewing. There is no justification for turning over a case to a collection agency at the end of the term. Large publishers abuse consumers and damage their credit over a few dollars or make harassing phone calls to home and work.

The Federal Trade Commission has done nothing to protect consumers. It is time to introduce legislation to once again be able to read a magazine at home without the aid of a lawyer.
