From the Yellowstone National Park Act that established our nation's first national park in 1872 to President Barack Obama, who has protected more acres of land and water than any administration in American history, the American people have a proud tradition of preserving land for the enjoyment of generations to come.
This petition asks the White House to declare 1.7 million acres of land surrounding the Grand Canyon a national monument in order to protect one of our most beloved national parks from the dangers of uranium mining. According to the Grand Canyon Trust, four out of every five Arizonans support such a proposal---with bipartisan support. Our nation's monuments deserve preservation---especially from the dangerous mining of uranium. We the people ask that something be done.
