Protect Human Rights: Allow DNA Testing of Evidence for Innocents

Created by H.C. on December 29, 2012

This petition asks President Obama to issue an executive order that will allow the right to DNA testing of crime scene evidence for those who have been wrongfully convicted. This would allow inmates to test their DNA against all of the evidence in their cases.

Innocent men and women are imprisoned in the United States today and it is a serious problem when the right to due process for American citizens is limited. Across the nation, prosecutors and judges are refusing to allow DNA testing of evidence to be performed in all criminal cases - even when the defendant claims actual innocence and no DNA from the crime scene has been matched to the imprisoned party.

A federal fund for exonerees' legal judgments should be created to take the financial strain from States for doing what is right.
