Protect the integrity of the electoral system by federalizing voting laws and working for publicly-funded elections.

This petition seeks to fundamentally change the way that elections are carried out in the US. First, all elections should be publicly funded, with outside campaign contributions disallowed. This will allow the elected officials to focus more on the work of government than the work of raising money to stay elected. Second, voting laws and procedures should be standardized throughout the country so that all states and districts within those states allow the same segments of the population to vote and so that all ballots are structurally and functionally identical. Standard ballots would reduce ambiguity in intended vote and reduce voter confusion. These provisions would work to repair the damage done by the Citizens United and Voting Rights Act decisions of the Supreme Court.
