Why are personal medical records allowed to be transfered from court to court without written permission? I recently found out that because my ex had a public defender in both his family court case and criminial court case that my personal medical records could be transfered to any personnel in the public defenders office. This was done months ago without my knowledge and I am anticipating these will be used against me in his criminal trial. I am failing to understand how this is legal considering that no other information can be moved from court to court. ( ex: I cannot mention child support in custody court or vice versa) We need to reform HIPAA or create a new law to include all areas that medical records are used!! Nobody should be punished for getting the help they need!!!
