The National Anthem needs to be protected and needs to be sung the way it was written. It is a symbol of our Country just as our Flag is and should be treated as such. It is very disrespectful for people to take creative freedom when singing The Star Spangled Banner. Lately, not only has the melody and notes been changed, but singers are adding words and extra verses! This symbol of our country is played when our Flag is lowered on U.S. bases around the world with military members rendering a salute at the beginning of the first note. This is the respect it deserves. Protect this Symbol of our Freedom.
