Bulk surveillance erodes our rights. This is more than just the right to privacy. It is our personal security. The right to be secure in your person and effects from unreasonable search and seizure. (Fourth Amendment, U.S. Constitution) "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." (Benjamin Franklin) The NSA has run amok without any checks and balances and has trampled on our rights. "Absolute power corrupts absolutely." (John Dalberg-Acton) The limited review of the secret FISA court has had no restraint on the NSA. No one doubts the sincerity of the patriots working at the NSA today, but if this usurpation of power continues unabated, then in 50 or 100 years what kind of totalitarian police state will our grandchildren live in?
