As of 2010, the National Center for Education Statistics states that there are 98,817 public schools, 33,366 private schools, and 6,742 postsecondary institutions operating in the United. The only system in place at most of these institutions to ward off illegal firearms are signs stating that firearms are not permitted. Criminals do not obey the law, so these signs are useless.
What our schools need is protection. This petition is to create and enact a law that would hire our thousands of unemployed Veterans (who already have many of the necessary skills), give them the proper training, arm them accordingly, and have them stand guard inside and out of educational institutions nationwide. This would effectively solve the issue of Veteran unemployment and school safety in one fell swoop.
