in 48 out of 50 states, conversion therapy is legal. Conversion therapy is the practice of trying to "cure" folks of non-heterosexuality. This can be done in many painful ways, the worst being electroshock "therapy." This is blatant torture, and should not be legal. The American Psychological Association has not listed homosexuality as a disease since the 1970s, and condemns conversion therapy. Queer folks do not need to be "fixed." Survivors of conversion therapy have higher rates of substance abuse, depression, and suicide.
