Black-tailed prairie dogs, a keystone species that has seen there historical range reducted to less than 5% are poisoned or otherwise exterminated on federal lands throughout the west. At the public's expense, at the behest of agribusiness and the USDA, who traditionally and incorrectly view them as pests, this social, intellegent animal is often erradicated from their native habitats. As they are eliminated, so are the many species, including the endangered black-footed ferret, who depend on them for a food source or their burrows for shelter.
