I strongly believe in the right to bear arms. I believe that Americans have the right to own assault weapons. Because the Bill of Rights gives citizens the right to establish a militia. A militia is volunteer military. Which means the militia should be allowed to have the same weapons as the military.
However I also believe assault weapons need to be keep under lock and key. In the Newtown school shooting the gunman was able to obtain Assault rifles. Because they were not under lock and key. I propose that new legislation to be introduced to require gun owners to have Gun Safes.
Any firearm capable of being equipped with magazines of 15 rounds or more. Should be required to be kept in a Gun Safes or quality break-in resistant gun cabinet. When the gunowner is not present.
