Thousands of US telephone customers receive weekly, anonymous, war-dialed telephone calls from abroad. The caller, in thick Indian/Pakistani accent, falsely says the callee's computer is warning Microsoft's "tech support center" of malware. Just go to a particular website to let him "fix the problem." Only ... the scammer's website installs ransom-ware that locks up one's computer, until money is sent to a foreign account.
We need an FCC/Justice Dept/State Dept. task force, working closely with India/Pakistan/internet/phone companies to trace these calls, and stop these tele-criminals. Teach them they can't hide. Incentivize informants with rewards.
Our population is aging. This awful scam will only get worse among the easily confused elderly.
Protect us from these criminals.
