US fishermen are asking US Secretary of State John Kerry to protect and support US fisheries against the only foreign fishing fleet still allowed to fish in US waters.
There is little time remaining. The US and Canada are meeting next week to address this issue and Canadian politicians have raised this issue to the highest levels of their government. If our government does not stand up and protect these US fishermen, there will be less and less "local" seafood available to US consumers. Fish will be caught by foreign vessels in US waters, then taken back to foreign ports, only to be imported into the US at premium prices.
The treaty is harmful to the US albacore fishery. The treaty outsources jobs and economic benefits to Canada. It needs to be stopped.
