Protect Vulnerable Groups by Opposing Sex-Segregated Restrooms

Created by M.K. on April 24, 2016

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory recently set up a hotline for citizens to report "gender-suspicious" activity in public restrooms by "tak[ing] photographs and report[ing] as much detail as possible." We find this endorsement of sexual harassment in the form of potty pics repugnant and call on the government to oppose sex-segregated bathrooms on the basis that they provide a slippery slope to this unconstitutional behavior and also affirm the following:

Laws forcing people to use bathrooms corresponding with their birth sex harm not only transgender people but other groups also, such as caregivers of children, disabled or elderly of the opposite sex.

Trans people are a vulnerable population: about 70% report being harassed in a restroom and the Fourteenth Amendment grants them protection.
