Protect Workers From Exploitation on Federal Holidays

Created by J.B. on November 26, 2014

Federal establishments and banks are closed on federal holidays, but businesses remain open! Black Friday promotions and sales have bled into Thanksgiving, forcing retail employees, associates, and other personnel including security, custodial, and support staff to be away from their families working when other workers are protected by the right to remain home. Businesses and corporations exploit their workers and make these days non-negotiable, forcing employees to work or lose their livelihoods.

Legal precedent exists to keep businesses closed on federal holidays. Blue Laws in Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island are upheld by modern court rulings like McGowan v. Maryland under the Warren court. Please extend the protections federal workers receive to all American workers!
