Student debt is becoming a greater problem. It is incredibly challenging for recent graduates in debt with a desire to work for the common good and seeking to gain experience by volunteering to have the resources, both time and financial, when the pressing need to repay loans and achieve financial stability become a primary concern.
I propose in response to this issue a program be instituted wherein a student with federal loans can qualify for an amount of debt forgiveness in exchange for time spent volunteering over the course of a year. A program such as this could be of immediate assistance to recent graduates in repaying their obligation, while at the same time providing a currently lacking workforce in high need areas.
