Make gun safes tax deductible and or wholly/partly subsidized. All i have heard thus far is plans on how to keep guns from being sold from law abiding citizens to criminals. Although it is not unreasonable to believe that a lawful citizen could sell a weapon to a criminal (lets face it, not every criminal rolls with menace to society tattooed on their throats) I believe requiring background checks for private sales of weapons just only barely scratches the surface of the goal we all share to minimize gun violence. It is common knowledge criminals largely obtain their weapons illegally through theft and burglary. While every gun owner should own a gun safe, the sad fact is many do not. Please consider positive incentives.
