Reading is an essential skill for navigating simple to complex health information. Dyslexia can be normalized with evidence-based interventions. Dyslexia is considered a neurologic processing condition diagnosed by licensed healthcare professionals. The intervention is typically left to reading specialists within the education system where interventions are only subsidized under education funding and not healthcare funding. Dyslexia is a health condition that can only be normalized with specialized intervention. Dyslexia is negatively associated with health literacy, a predictor of important health outcomes and quality of life. Literacy is a prerequisite to health, therefore children and adults diagnosed with dyslexia should benefit from health insurance coverage for intervention.
