Travel often burdens students who must commute to a university (86% of all higher education students) and the high cost of travel may dissuade them from pursuing their education or making them incapable of doing so due to other financial obligations or a lack of resources. We would like a direct subsidy to ease the cost of travel allowing students to invest their time and resources into their studies and promote success at the university level.
Current aide programs fail to address this specific cost by simply evaluating need based on all factors and providing a lump sum of aide accordingly. A direct subsidy solely to be used for travel will help ensure that government aide money may better address this specific challenge faced by many students.
