Numerous large corporations have demonstrated their unwillingness to provide benefits to their employees, going as far as to force their full-time employees to become part-time. In many cases these employees are worked 39.5 hours per week; Enough hours that the employer gets the benefit of almost a full work week out of the employee, but not enough hours that they have to provide benefits. As more parts of the Affordable Healthcare Act become law, this behavior is increasing. This is abusive to those employees, many of whom are already among the working poor. Please work with the House and Senate to strengthen existing labor laws, and ensure that new labor laws are drafted with part-time employees in mind.
