The Obama administration is steadfast in its commitment to "rewarding a hard day's work with fair pay." That is, of course, unless you are working in the White House itself. Every year the White House "hires" hundreds of unpaid interns, associates, and elderly volunteers to do essential work within the administration's many offices. They do the same work as paid employees, contributing to everything from communications to policy, but don't receive a cent in compensation. This is in blatant contradiction to the values President Obama is attempting to instill in the rest of the United States labor force. It excludes low-income applicants, devalues hard work, and skirts labor protections.
The White House has refused to comment on this issue: now you can make them, at least, try to defend it.
