This is important because it allows those whom desire the rebuilding of the lost family tree. Roots to African heritage were severed. Now DNA testing can re-establish family tree roots at the tribal level. Also many families were seperated from one another during slavery and this will allow past connection to be re-established.
This would be the greatest debt of gratitude the United States could pay as gesture of reconciliation regarding slavery, and as a corrective measure to a full family history. This also gives us a better understanding of US Amercan history and that should also be the goal of our government.
