Funding for public higher education, the most affordable option for most students, has dropped precipitously in most states over the past several years due to state economig crises and balanced budget requirements. This has forced colleges to raise tuition and fees to offset the declining public support while enrollment has increased dramatically due to high unemployment. Results include larger class sizes, scaling back on the services they can provide, and students accumulating dangerous levels of student debt.
Restoring funding to higher education would help to increase graduation rates, improve learning outcomes due to lower class sizes, and allow the best faculty to be attracted and retained to these positions for our future prosperity as a nation. We need an educated work force!
