Senior citizens in this country used to be able to retire, knowing that the companies they worked for would provide for them and that the federal Social Security program would provide additional funding. With more and more companies forcing senior citizens into early retirement or reducing their benefits after retirement our loved ones, who have worked for most of their lives to ensure the well-being of future generations now find themselves unable to afford even the most basic of life's necessities.
We must implement a federal program to better provide for our senior citizens and to ensure that their well-deserved retirement is not one of poverty. I urge the Obama administration to take action at once with a formal proposal for increasing federal spending to address this issue.
