Several million federal employees, current and retired, with initial estimates of 4-32 million so the figure is not actually known, but it is several million. It was a total and complete data breach. Federal employees are required to protect all PII (personally identifiable information) provided by anyone interacting with the government. The PII of these affected and impacted federal employees was a full and complete compromise of all data on each employee, resulting in their information being insecure forever. The OPM (Office of Personnel Management) has offered an 18 month coverage by a specific company. 18 months is not sufficient since the data is now available to whomever decides to share and/or sell, forever. Lifetime coverage/protection should be provided or life to all affected.
