Because of captivity and slavery African Americans were deprived of knowledge of our ancestors, land of origin and even our names leaving us the most disenfranchised people the world has ever known. In the South we were beaten for speaking in our native tongue. In the North we were forced to take "Christian" (European) names to become free. During the Civil War courthouses were burned, some containing records of our actual names. In every war America has fought expenditures are made to repair damage done. The Japanese Americans were given reparations for interment right here in the USA after the war with Japan. Our tax dollars contributed to every cause. Our human rights were violated leaving us like a tree without roots. Few of us have $400 to find out who we are and where we're from.
