We hereby petition President Obama to initiate funding for research of LFTRs (Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors) as a source of clean, dependable energy. On a small scale, the Molten Salt Reactor Experiment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory has clearly demonstrated the feasibiilty of the LFTR concept, and its significant safety advantages over traditional pressurized water reactors.
With the warnings of climate change ever more dire, it is urgent that the United States explore all avenues of carbon-free power generation. Recognizing its potential, the People's Republic of China recently initiated the largest LFTR research program in history. Without an aggressive domestic program we risk ceding superiority in this highly-promising, emerging technology. (Thorium-Now.org)
