Many students may now be able to breath a sigh of relief with news of income based repayment (IBR) for federal student loans. It appears, though, that those with private loans will not have that option.
Many students with private loans suffer from crushing debt with no way to ease things or escape. Often, the only option is to repay, without ways to do so. Those with private loans should be eligible for IBR repayment too.
Please consider extending IBR to private loans. Also, loan forgiveness programs must be more extensive to give other ways to repay, and bankruptcy must be reconsidered for when other options fail.
Education must not leave students destitute.
Help us with options for our private loans, & we'll do our best to help prevent what could be the next financial crisis.
