That Federal and states’ governments provide homeless veterans with “Veteran’s Shelters” to determine health needs, substance abuse, financial issues, and provide a venue to connect and socialize with other veterans.
The general idea would be to establish Veteran’s Centers within cities and townships where veterans have been identified among homeless populations; arrested for vagrancy, acts of squatting, public intoxication, etc.
Veterans themselves could be asked to volunteer to help run these centers, at various capacities, to provide recommendations as to how best to handle various issues.
The main goal would be to prevent any repeat cases, such as that of Jerome Murdough, a mentally ill, homeless veteran allowed to die in a prison cell for trespassing into a lobby to stay warm.
