The starting salary for the average law enforcement officer (LEO) is roughly $33000 (+ or - a few thousand). The poverty line for a family of 4 is currently $22500. The poverty line does not account for metropolitan cities like NY/Chicago where cost of living and basic human necessities is substantially increased. Many LEOs are forced to find part-time work just to make ends meet day to day. Also, becoming an LEO is currently one of the most exhaustive and difficult processes there is. LEOs go through more than the average citizen will ever know. They risk their lives for our safety and their salary does not reflect this. The Obama admin needs to fight to give LEOs the financial security they deserve in order to perform their jobs and not have to fear what their financial future may hold.
