China's compromise of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) database resulted in the theft of extremely sensitive personnel files on all current and former federal employees, including social security numbers, past addresses, and the names of friends and family members; everything a marginally competent criminal would need to commit identity theft. The individuals who entrusted their private data to the OPM deserve nothing less than lifelong identity theft protection and credit monitoring services.
