An EM Drive is a theoretical device that can produce thrust without expelling propellant. A device like this could reach tremendous speeds in a short amount of time and run nearly forever as it can never run out of fuel, it just needs electricity to work. The outer reaches of the solar system and beyond would be within reach of human exploration for the first time. At this time, the physics are not understood but several small scale tests have concluded there is strong evidence that the drive works. The only real way to find out is to test a prototype in space.
