Often in minor offense or misdemeanor cases, defendants who choose to represent themselves do not have much higher education and come from low-income areas. Because of their conditions, many of these people may not have access to internet or resources they can use to prepare themselves for court trials. Appearing in court often feels humiliating or intimidating when they do not know procedures or do not fully understand the ordinances involved in their case. The courts are for the people, and pro se litigants have a right to the information they need to represent themselves with a sense of dignity.
We ask for your help to introduce a policy that will require smaller courts to provide information to pro se litigants on court proceedings and the ordinance(s) they have broken.
