The American people are being adversely impacted on a daily basis by the free run that health insurance companies and pharmaceuticals companies have been given. We are seeing monopolies occur on the market place in some areas as companies with lower profit margins lose support and are forced to close, which is driving up premiums for everyone. Medically necessary tests and procedures are denied coverage until huge deductibles are met (including blood work for patients on medications that require regular blood work to maintain and monitor health). We are risking our lives daily. We need a non-profit, single payer option with a sliding fee scale that has rights to negotiate costs, ideally expanding Medicaid. It would also close the quality of care gap between the rich and poor.
