The United States military dropped bombs in Laos, they are still there, and the innocent people of Laos continue to be maimed and injured by them.
From 1964 to 1973, the U.S. dropped over 280 million bombs over Laos in over 580,000 bombing missions, and it is estimated that over 80 million of these failed to detonate. Today the poorest districts in Laos continue to be burdened with unexploded ordnance (UXO) contamination.
$51 million has been spend in total for UXO clearance, risk education, and victim assistance; $56 billion was spent for the bombing.
It is our responsibility to provide the resources necessary to clean up the bombs in Laos we left behind after the Vietnam War.
Let's clean it up. Let's fulfill our moral responsibility.
